The Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (ZEC) has warned the public against a fraudulent job recruitment advertisement circulating on social media, saying the notice is the work of criminals.

The fake advert claims that ZEC is inviting “suitably qualified candidates from all districts to fill five hundred twenty seven (527) vacant positions in preparation for the upcoming electoral activities throughout the country.”

In a statement issued on Tuesday, 13 April 2026, ZEC Chief Elections Officer Simbarashe Tongayi said the commission does not recruit staff through social media and disowned the viral post as unauthorised.

Said Tongayi: “The Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (ZEC) has noted with concern a false job recruitment advertisement currently circulating on various social media platforms.

“The Commission wishes to categorically state that this advertisement is fraudulent, unauthorised, and does not originate from the Commission. The Commission does not conduct any form of recruitment through social media platforms.

“Members of the public are advised that all official job vacancies within ZEC are advertised exclusively through local mainstream newspapers and through the Commission’s official communication channels. Any information to the contrary should be treated as false and deceptive.

“The Commission strongly urges members of the public to exercise caution and refrain from engaging with or responding to such fraudulent advertisements, particularly where personal information or payments are requested.

“Furthermore, the Commission warns individuals or groups behind this malicious practice to immediately cease and desist from publishing or circulating false information in the name of the organisation.

“Such actions are unlawful and constitute an offence under the Criminal Law (Codification and Reform) Act [Chapter 9:23] and will result in the Commission taking legal action against them.

“The Commission reiterates that it does not recruit through third parties and members of the public are advised to exercise extreme caution and vigilance and not engage or respond to this fraudulent advertisement by clicking on any links, providing any personal details or making any payments.”

Tongayi added that for accurate and verified information regarding employment opportunities within the Commission, the public is encouraged to rely only on ZEC’s official communication channels, namely telephone numbers +263-242-759130/756252, email inquiries@zec.org.zw, and the official website https://www.zec.org.zw.
