The Government has instructed all Town Clerks, Town Secretaries, and Chief Executive Officers nationwide to buy copies of President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s biography, “A Life of Sacrifice”, for distribution to local schools.
In a directive dated 31 March 2026, John Basera, the Permanent Secretary for Local Government and Public Works, told local authorities that a revised edition of the 2021 biography has been produced.
The 2026 version, published by Jarach Media, includes new translations into Shona, Ndebele, and Tonga to ensure broader accessibility.
According to the circular, the publication is retailing at US$17 per copy. However, a discounted rate of US$15 is available for bulk orders exceeding 100 copies.
“In view of the foregoing, the publisher is appealing for the purchase of the book by various individuals and institutions and the same to be distributed to schools,” wrote Basera.
“The biography provides a close insight into the life and journey of one of Zimbabwe’s illustrious sons.
“Each copy is selling at US$17.00. For an order of 100 copies or more, the discounted price is USD$15.00 per copy.
“In this regard, you are implored to make the necessary arrangements to procure this invaluable book for the benefit of your communities.”
The directive places significant financial strain on cash-strapped local authorities, many of which are already struggling to provide basic services, by requiring them to fund the procurement of the President’s biography.
