Marondera Town Council has issued a warning to residents about the illegal sale of Elmswood stands, saying the land is not for sale and that any transactions could result in financial loss.

In a public notice dated 31 March 2026, Town Clerk Rinashe Nyamuzihwa said the stands had already been allocated to beneficiaries through an official process. He stressed that any attempt to buy or sell the plots outside this process is unlawful.

Nyamuzihwa added that the matter is currently before the courts, and until a ruling is made, no individual or organisation has the legal right to sell or transfer ownership of the stands. Said Nyamuzihwa:

“The Municipality of Marondera wishes to advise members of the public that Elmswood stands are not available for sale. These stands have already been allocated to specific beneficiaries through an established process.

“There is an ongoing land dispute concerning Elmswood currently before the courts. Until this matter is resolved, no individual or organisation has lawful authority to sell or transfer ownership of the stands.

“Reports have been received of individuals falsely claiming to sell Elmswood stands and constructing unapproved structures.

“The council cautions the public against engaging with such sellers as this could result in financial loss. Any unauthorised buildings will be demolished.

“No party has the legal right to evict or displace beneficiaries. Any contrary actions will be legally challenged.

“The Municipality urges patience and restraint while awaiting a court resolution. The council will refrain from further comments until a definitive judgment is delivered.”
