Shamva South MP Joseph Mapiki (ZANU PF) has criticised the exclusion of sex workers from the Occupational Safety Bill, arguing that all workers deserve legal protection.
Mapiki said sex workers should be recognised under the proposed law to ensure they are safeguarded from workplace hazards and injuries. He said:
“We cannot leave out issues to do with sex workers; if we leave them out, I do not know, but in reality, that is happening.
“We need to ensure that those workers and employers have enough protection.”
The Occupational Safety Bill seeks to provide a framework for protecting the health and safety of workers across different industries.
Mapiki said the legislation should take a more inclusive approach, ensuring that all workers are covered, no matter their profession.
