Three people have died after being struck by a vehicle at the 54km peg along the Norton–Murombedzi Road on Saturday night.

According to Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) spokesperson Commissioner Paul Nyathi, the victims had been seated by the roadside at around 7:30 pm on 28 March 2026 when a motorist driving a Tata truck towards Murombedzi lost control, veered off the road to the left, and hit them.

Two of the people died at the scene, while a third succumbed to injuries after being admitted to Father O’Hea Hospital in Kutama. The fourth person, along with the truck driver, is currently receiving treatment at the same hospital.

In a separate incident, police have arrested 48-year-old Everson Masuka in connection with a fatal hit-and-run accident that occurred earlier the same day.

The crash occurred at around 5:30 pm along Samora Machel Avenue, near the Showgrounds in Harare.

Commissioner Nyathi said Masuka, who was driving a Nissan Hardbody towards Chegutu, allegedly swerved to the left in an attempt to avoid a collision with a vehicle in front of him. In doing so, he struck a 45-year-old male pedestrian who was walking along the roadside.

The victim, who has not yet been named, died at the scene after sustaining severe head injuries and fractured legs. Police said he was dragged for approximately 20 metres.

Masuka reportedly failed to stop after the collision and fled the scene, but was later apprehended.
