The body of a 64-year-old male nurse from Mwenezi, who was swept away by the flooded Muchingwizi River, has been recovered after a 19-day search.

Frank Siziba was discovered on Wednesday, 25 March, approximately five kilometres downstream from the river crossing.

The discovery was made at around 7 am by his son. According to Inspector Kudakwashe Dhewa, the Masvingo Provincial Police Spokesperson, the body was found trapped between tree roots.

Although the remains were in an advanced state of decomposition, the family was able to identify him by his wristwatch and the clothing he was wearing at the time of his disappearance.

Siziba had been missing since the evening of 6 March. He was last seen at Matibi Business Centre, where he had been socialising.

His wife, 49-year-old Shorai Zheke, had left him earlier that evening to attend a church service in the nearby Chapwanya Village.

Witnesses reported that Siziba left the business centre at approximately 10 pm after having supper at a friend’s home. He reportedly told his friend that he was heading out to meet his wife.

However, when Zheke returned home the following morning, she discovered that her husband had not arrived.

Following an unsuccessful search by the family, a missing person report was filed with the local police, leading to the nearly three-week search that ended in Wednesday’s tragic discovery.
