The Zimbabwe Anti-Corruption Commission (ZACC) has confirmed the arrest of a Zimbabwe Electricity Supply Authority (ZESA) employee over bribery allegations.

In a statement, ZACC said Wellington Tsaurai Chinyemba, a Revenue Assistant at ZESA, was arrested after he disconnected electricity at a property in St Mary’s, Chitungwiza, claiming there were illegal connections.

He then allegedly demanded USD$300 from the property owner, Clever Mpofu, to restore power and clear the supposed fines. ZACC added:

“After verifying with ZESA, the complainant was informed that Chinyemba’s demand was unlawful. Mpofu then reported the matter to ZACC.

“A trap was set, leading to the accused person’s arrest. Chinyemba is expected to appear in court soon.”
