The Reserve Bank of Zimbabwe (RBZ) says its “ZiG Education & Awareness Campaign” has already reached 75% of the country’s districts just 15 days into its March rollout.

The campaign, which kicked off on 1 March and runs until 31 March, is aimed at educating the public about the upgraded Big5ZiG Banknote Series, set for release on 7 April 2026.

In its latest update, the RBZ reported that 48 of the country’s 64 districts have been covered, with Bulawayo and Harare achieving full reach.

Other provinces, including Mashonaland West, Central and East, Manicaland, Masvingo, and both Matabeleland regions, reported 71% coverage, while Midlands leads with an impressive 88%.

So far, 1,167 urban and rural centres have been engaged, reflecting the central bank’s push for inclusive outreach.

The campaign has directly reached 610,541 participants, with Harare accounting for the largest share at 209,882.

Midlands followed with 124,411, while Mashonaland Central and East reached 62,604 and 50,478 people, respectively.

A breakdown of target groups shows a focus on women and youth (29.7%), followed by the education sector (19.4%), business and agriculture (19.1%), and the general public (17.5%). Civil servants and community leaders make up the remaining 14.3%.

The RBZ also noted several concerns raised by the public, including the limited circulation of coins and notes, inflation control measures, penalties for businesses refusing ZiG payments, and what will happen to current ZiG notes after 7 April.
