Controversial businessman Kudakwashe Tagwirei paid a whopping US$1.8 million at a charity auction in Harare on Thursday for President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s first car – an Aston 1300 he drove as a law student at the University of Zambia (UNZA).

Tagwirei immediately donated the car back to the ED–University of Zambia Scholarship Trust, which helps Zimbabwean students at the university.

The auction, which sold Mnangagwa’s memorabilia, raised over US$2.5 million in total.

The ED–UNZA Scholarship Programme supports academically gifted but underprivileged or orphaned learners, helping them attend university through scholarships.

Since its launch, the programme has mainly assisted students studying law at the University of Zambia.
