The Chitungwiza Regional Magistrates’ Court has sentenced a 48-year-old man to 20 years in prison for the rape of his biological daughter, who was 15 at the time of the abuse.
The victim, now 17, was a student when the abuse started, which took place between March 2024 and August 2025 while she was living with her father in South Africa.
On 22 March 2024, the victim tried to escape an initial assault by pretending she needed to use the toilet.
However, her father chased her down the road, caught her, and dragged her back to the house.
Once inside, he physically assaulted her with his fists and open hands, striking her repeatedly on her head and face.
The offender subjected the victim to unlawful sexual intercourse and aggravated indecent assault (oral sex) without her consent.
These horrific acts continued for over a year until August 2025. The court ordered the 20-year sentences for both counts to run concurrently, resulting in an effective 20-year prison term.
The National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) said that it is appalling for a biological parent, who is supposed to protect their child, to instead become the source of their trauma.
The NPA added that the 20-year sentence sends a strong message that the law will pursue and punish those who violate children, regardless of where the crime occurred or the relationship between the perpetrator and the victim.
