Two Dead, One Missing After Car Plunges Into Water-Filled Mine

Two people have died, and another is missing after a road accident along Coronation Mine Road in Shurugwi on Tuesday afternoon.

According to the Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP), a driver travelling in an Isuzu double cab with three passengers is said to have lost control of the vehicle. The car veered off the road and plunged into a disused, water-filled mine.

The driver managed to escape from the submerged vehicle without injury, but the passengers were not as fortunate. The ZRP said:

“The ZRP confirms a fatal road traffic accident which occurred along Coronation Mine Road, Shurugwi, on 17/02/26 at around 1500 hours.

“A motorist driving an Isuzu double cab with three passengers on board reportedly lost control of the vehicle, veered off the road and plunged into a disused, water-filled mine.

“The vehicle became submerged, and the three passengers were trapped inside the vehicle while the driver escaped unhurt.

“Two of the passengers died on the spot, while the other passenger is still missing.”
