Former MDC members who joined ZANU-PF have warned Zimbabweans that supporting Nelson Chamisa is pointless.

Chamisa, the former leader of MDC Alliance and later the Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC), recently announced he is returning to lead an opposition movement after two years away from the public eye.

His comeback drew criticism over the weekend during the launch of the Chegutu Ward 1 by-election campaign. Former opposition figures who are now in ZANU-PF openly criticised him.

Former MDC Kwekwe Central MP Blessing Chebundo went so far as to call Chamisa a “corpse.” He said:

“Keep following Chamisa; it is no different from flies that follow a corpse into a grave.”

Gift Konjana, a ZANU-PF candidate for the Chegutu Ward 1 by-election, claimed that the opposition lacks leadership.

Konjana is known for his disputed 2018 parliamentary election in Chegutu West, which was controversially awarded to ZANU-PF’s Dexter Nduna.

ZANU-PF Politburo member Ziyambi Ziyambi praised former opposition members for seeking positions within the ruling party. He said:

“We want to build ZANU PF so that everyone comes back to the ruling party. The President is happy when former opposition members contest for positions.

“These men can destroy the opposition completely and make ZANU-PF greater than what it is today because of their experiences.”
