Scottish Premiership club Hibernian F.C. has confirmed the loan signing of Zimbabwean international Munashe Garananga from Danish champions FC Copenhagen, pending work permit approval.
The 25-year-old centre-back becomes Hibs’ sixth signing of the January transfer window and their third recruit on Deadline Day, joining on loan until the end of the 2025/26 season.
Garananga’s career has progressed quickly, moving from KV Mechelen in Belgium to a €4 million transfer to Copenhagen.
He has won league and cup doubles with Sheriff Tiraspol in Moldova and Copenhagen in Denmark, and has played in the UEFA Champions League, Europa League, and Conference League.
He has also earned 17 caps for Zimbabwe and made two appearances at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations.
On the signing, Hibernian FC Head Coach David Gray said:
“I am really pleased to add a player of Gara’s quality to the squad on Deadline Day.
“He has got some fantastic attributes which will stand him in good stead for this league.
“He is a quick, aggressive centre-back who is comfortable in possession and playing out from the back.
“I am looking forward to him joining the group and he is another strong addition to the team.”
Hibernian FC Sporting Director Malky Mackay said they were thrilled to bring in an international player of Gara’s calibre from such a well-established club. He added:
“I would like to thank Sporting Director, Nils Koppen, and all at FC Copenhagen who were involved in a very amicable and smooth deal.
“It was important for us that we brought another experienced player to the Club in this window, and we are all looking forward to watching him in action between now and the end of the season.”
Hibernian are currently fifth in the Scottish Premiership, with 36 points from 24 games.
