President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s special investment adviser, Tempter Paul Tungwarara, has said that ZANU-PF’s empowerment projects will resume once proper structures are in place.

This comes after the party recently suspended the distribution of the Presidential Economic Empowerment Revolving Fund until further notice.

The decision was communicated in a letter dated 23 January 2024 from the party’s national political commissar, Munyaradzi Machacha, to all provincial chairpersons.

Machacha said the party’s Secretary General, Jacob Mudenda, will soon issue new guidelines on the Fund’s distribution, use, and management.

Speaking to journalists at Rusununguko Branch in Ward 6 during the Gaza primary cell verification exercise over the weekend, where he is a registered voter, Tungwarara said:

“The empowerment is still ongoing. It has not stopped; it’s just that the leadership and the commissariat department want proper structures.

“People were collecting money without proper records of how it was being used. We must have a proper structure.

“Once done, you will see improvement; our secretary-general of the party is putting proper structures in place.”

Tungwarara also responded to criticism on social media, where ZANU PF youths accused him of creating divisions within the party. He said:

“I don’t have time to respond to social media, but if you are not being attacked, you are not doing anything.

“They may appear to attack me, but they are attacking Vision 2030. Let’s stay focused and support the vision.

“Manicaland, let’s remain united and support President Mnangagwa. Be wise against those who use divide-and-rule methods.”
