Senior Police Officer Caught With US$19,000 Worth Of Dagga Following High Speed Chase In Masvingo

A senior police officer was arrested on Monday following a high-speed chase in Masvingo for the unlawful possession of illicit drugs worth US$19,000.

Inspector Pikirai Dade Hakata, 53, who oversees operations in the Mbare District in Harare, was detained alongside his accomplice, 31-year-old Ringisai Mapirwe, a known drug dealer from Dzivarasekwa.

Hakata, driving a silver Toyota Aqua registered to Oliver Musekiwa of Harare, attempted to evade a police checkpoint on the Masvingo–Beitbridge Road. He was intercepted within five kilometres of the checkpoint after a brief pursuit.

Officers conducted a thorough search of the vehicle upon its return to the checkpoint and found 83 cobs of dagga concealed in the car’s trunk and back seat, wrapped in brown cello tape and hidden under a blanket.

Both Inspector Hakata and Mapirwe were taken to the Masvingo Criminal Investigations Department (CID) for Drugs and Narcotics for further investigations.
