Teacher Assaults Villager Over “Silly” Question

A Geography teacher at Makoni Secondary School in rural Masvingo is facing an assault charge after allegedly hitting a fellow drinker during a beer-drinking session.

Tanyongana Runatsa, 55, is accused of striking 56-year-old Tawanda Chateuka above the right eye with a walking crutch.

The incident occurred on 13 September 2025, around 3 pm, at Chatikobo Business Centre under Chief Murinye.

Prosecutor Godknows Mugondo told the court that the two men were drinking together when Chateuka asked Runatsa what Geography is, angering the teacher, who then allegedly struck him.

Chateuka sustained injuries and reported the matter to the police.

Runatsa appeared in court before Masvingo Magistrate Caroline Tafira Nyoni.
