The Zimbabwe Anti-Corruption Commission (ZACC) has confirmed the arrest of Chiredzi West Member of Parliament, Darlington Chiwa (ZANU-PF), on allegations of theft after he allegedly diverted Constituency Development Funds (CDF).

In a statement on Saturday, 17 January 2026, ZACC said Chiwa, who is also the Chairperson of the Chiredzi West CDF, became the sole signatory to the constituency bank account after allegedly manipulating other community members into giving up their roles on the account.

ZACC investigations found that in April 2025, the Parliament of Zimbabwe transferred ZWG1,332,430 (about US$50,000) into the Chiredzi West constituency account. Chiwa allegedly moved the money into his personal bank accounts.

He is said to have used ZWG993,241 to buy building materials, groceries, shoes and beer for himself, while only ZWG270,427 was spent on constituency projects.

The MP allegedly later submitted fake acquittal documents to Parliament, falsely claiming that the full amount had been used for school development projects.
