A senior official of the National Democratic Working Group (NDWG), a political organisation led by Job Sikhala, has died.

Sibotshiwe Sibanda passed away on the night of her birthday, 6 January, while in South Africa, where she had travelled for the festive season.

Her death was announced in a statement by NDWG spokesperson Silenkosi Moyo. Said Moyo:

“This horrible news came as a piercing sword into the hearts of the NDWG members as no one expected such a sudden death occurrence as she was not sick or suffering from any ailment.

“Her sudden death falls on the heels of similar sudden death circumstances to our national Women Movement leader democrat Madade Ndlovu on November 8, 2025.

“Sibanda was a courageous leader, a woman of steel, fearless to the definition of the word and a democracy fighter whose dedication to the freedom of the masses of our people was beyond question as she wanted to see a free and democratic Zimbabwe.”

Moyo described Sibanda as an unsung heroine of extraordinary courage, devoted to the democratic struggle against tyranny and dictatorship in Zimbabwe. She said:

“She was a rare breed of solid leadership among the rank and file of the NDWG family and Zimbabwe at large.

“We mourn with the Sibanda family, and the NDWG family will be with them throughout this sad moment.”

Sibanda was born on 6 January 1964 and is survived by five children and nine grandchildren.
