Social media personality David Nhunzva has demanded a retraction and a public apology from the Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP), dismissing allegations levelled against him as false and damaging.
On Thursday, 25 December 2025, the ZRP issued a statement inviting Nhunzva to report to the CID Law and Order unit to answer to allegations that he had created and circulated AI-generated content intended to undermine the image of the police.
The police said the deepfake material violated provisions of the Cyber and Data Protection Act, Chapter 12:07.
In one of the videos, Nhunzva portrays himself handing over ZRP-branded vehicles to what appear to be senior police officers. In another, a group of officers are shown lying prostrate on the floor as he approaches.
Nhunzva, however, rejected the accusations, insisting he had committed no offence. In a statement shared on social media, he called on the ZRP to withdraw its claims and issue an apology, arguing that the allegations had unfairly tarnished his reputation. He wrote:
“I, Dr. David Nhunzva, a content creator and public figure, categorically deny the allegations made by the Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) that I created AI-generated videos with the intent to damage the image of the ZRP or mislead the public.
“These accusations are baseless and unfounded. My content is intended for entertainment and creative expression, not to harm any institution.
“The ZRP’s public statement has caused significant damage to my personal and professional reputation, leading to unwarranted scrutiny and harm among my followers, supporters, and the wider public.”
Nhunzva demanded that the ZRP immediately withdraw its statement, issue a public apology acknowledging the allegations were false, and stop any further actions that infringe on his rights. He added:
“I affirm my commitment to lawful creative expression and will pursue all legal avenues to clear my name and seek redress for this injustice.”
