Former Bafana Bafana goalkeeper Itumeleng Khune has warned that Zimbabwe could spring a surprise in Group B at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco.
Speaking on SABC 2 Sport after South Africa beat Angola 2-1 in their opening match on Monday, Khune said Bafana Bafana need to defeat Egypt in their next game to reach six points before facing Zimbabwe in their final group match next Monday. Said Khune:
“You know Zimbabwe is a tricky opponent and they always give us a hard time, it is a derby, so we have to collect more points when we face Egypt on Friday.
“The Zimbabwe match is a tricky one because they always give a hard time. We have many Zimbabwean players who are in our league, so they know our style of play, so we have to be prepared when we face Zimbabwe.
“I will be satisfied that we face Zimbabwe when we have 6 points, because then we will be comfortable knowing we have qualified for the next stage.”
Egypt and South Africa both have three points and are currently better positioned to progress to the knockout stages, ahead of Angola and Zimbabwe.
