President Emmerson Mnangagwa has officially started his annual month-long vacation as of Tuesday, 23 December 2025.
According to a statement from George Charamba, Deputy Chief Secretary for Presidential Communications, the President plans to spend his holiday in Zimbabwe.
Charamba said during Mnangagwa’s absence, the duties of the presidency will be handled by the country’s two vice presidents in a staggered arrangement.
Vice President Constantino Chiwenga will act from 1 to 13 January 2026, while Vice President Mohadi will cover the periods from 23 to 31 December 2025 and again from 14 January until the President returns to work in early February.
Unlike his predecessor, the late Robert Mugabe, who was known for spending his annual leave in the Far East, Mnangagwa prefers to remain in Zimbabwe during his holidays.
While Mugabe’s trips to Singapore and Malaysia often sparked debate over transparency and costs, Mnangagwa has chosen a more grounded approach, opting to spend his personal time within the country.
