Econet InfraCo, the infrastructure arm being spun off from Econet Wireless Zimbabwe, has announced plans to develop a 300-hectare industrial park near Robert Mugabe International Airport.

The site will be transformed into a modern industrial hub, featuring a 100-megawatt solar power plant and a large-scale data centre.

At the public launch of Econet InfraCo, Econet Group CEO Douglas Mboweni said the development would be carried out in phases, with the 100MW solar plant rolled out gradually in line with demand. Said Mboweni:

“Our vision is to create infrastructure, such as power and water facilities, needed for a modern industrial park.

“This will make it easier for investors to come in, take advantage of the location, and create jobs.”

Mboweni said the project is one of several major initiatives approved by Econet Group founder Strive Masiyiwa.

He explained that Econet InfraCo is not a new company, but a long-standing unit within Econet Wireless Zimbabwe that has traditionally supported the group’s infrastructure needs.

Econet has also revealed plans to list Econet InfraCo on the Victoria Falls Stock Exchange, pending shareholder and regulatory approval.
