The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) has urged communities not to ignore people showing signs of mental instability, but to notify the nearest health facility, social welfare office, or police station so that the individuals can be referred to qualified professionals for proper assessment, treatment, and support.

The warning follows a tragic incident in Guruve, where a suspected mentally unstable man murdered five of his relatives at Plot 9, Ona Farm, Mashonaland Central, on the night of 11 December 2025, before fleeing the scene. The ZRP said:

“As investigations into the murder case which occurred at Ona Farm, Guruve continue, the ZRP urges relatives and members of the community not to ignore mentally challenged patients or individuals showing signs of mental instability within communities.

“The public is urged to notify the nearest health facility, social welfare office or Police Station so that the individuals can be referred to qualified professionals for treatment, proper assessment and support.”

Earlier on Monday, ZRP spokesperson Commissioner Paul Nyathi identified the suspect in the Guruve mass murder as Anymore Zvitsva.

Zvitsva is alleged to have killed five members of the same family, including a woman, her two children, and two grandchildren.

The victims have been named as Grace Zvitsva (66), Loice Chiringaushe (37), Takudzwa Kariva (5), Tatenda Chirenje (2), and Tendai Zvitsva (40).

Commissioner Nyathi also said the suspect is linked to a recent triple murder in Zimuna Village, Chief Bepura, where Pamela Chipangura, Kudzai Chipangura, and Tawand Chipangura were killed. The circumstances of these deaths are currently under police investigation.
