A 35-year-old former fugitive accused of terrorising Guruve late last year has pleaded guilty to 10 counts, including rape, attempted murder and robbery.

Anymore Zvitsva entered his plea before the court on Wednesday, 13 May, and is expected back on Thursday for a pre-sentence hearing.

Prosecutors say Zvitsva carried out a “calculated and brutal” string of attacks between October and December 2025, targeting vulnerable people. His victims included a 14-year-old juvenile and a 62-year-old woman.

According to the National Prosecuting Authority of Zimbabwe (NPAZ), in several cases, Zvitsva allegedly used wire or shoelaces to tie up victims before dragging them into mountains or bushes to commit the offences. He is accused of using weapons and snare wire to subdue those he attacked.

The 10 counts include five of attempted murder. Zvitsva is accused of stabbing victims in the neck, chest and abdomen with knives and spears, and strangling others with snare wire until they lost consciousness.

He also allegedly broke into homes at night, sometimes wearing a balaclava, to attack sleeping families. In one incident, he reportedly struck a man with a machete before stealing a cigarette lighter, cigarettes and a soft drink.

Zvitsva’s “reign of terror” ended with his arrest on 3 January 2026. Police said he later led officers to several crime scenes, including an anthill where a victim’s red T-shirt was recovered from under a log.

The NPAZ said Zvitsva is still awaiting indictment to the High Court on several murder charges linked to the same period in Guruve.

“These are grave offences committed with extreme cruelty, and the justice system remains committed to ensuring the safety of the Guruve community,” the authority said.
