ZANU-PF says it has registered 437,000 people who have left opposition parties under its ongoing “Huyai Kumusha / Buyanini Ekhaya / Come Home” campaign.
In an interview with The Herald on Thursday, the party’s Secretary for Commissariat, Munyaradzi Machacha, said ZANU-PF has set up a special department to manage and keep track of those returning from opposition parties.
He added that the returnees are being encouraged to quickly take on roles within local party cells. Said Machacha:
“Just this year alone, we have received not less than 187,000 people returning to the party, in addition to the 250 000 we had previously received.
“We can see that this is a massive mass movement away from bankrupt opposition politics to empowering, development-oriented ZANU PF politics.
“It is something that we are really proud of – all because of President Mnangagwa’s wise leadership and his skilful handling of both governance and economic issues.”
Among those who have joined ZANU-PF from the opposition are Collins Tsvangirai, brother of the late MDC founder Morgan Tsvangirai; former Kwekwe Central MP Blessing Chebundo; and former MDC-T spokesperson Obert Gutu.
Machacha expressed confidence that ZANU-PF will continue to grow and eventually become a dominant, unchallenged party.
