In a statement, the Municipality said the community had lost a true icon whose music had touched countless lives. Reads the statement:

“A dark cloud hangs over Chitungwiza as we woke up to the heartbreaking news of the passing of Sungura legend, Madzibaba Nicholas Zakaria. We have lost a true icon whose music touched countless lives.

“Through songs such as Nzombe Huru, Mazano, and Mabvi Nemagokora, he played the role of a father, counsellor, teacher, and preacher to many.

“It is a well-known fact that Madzibaba groomed and mentored numerous Sungura musicians, earning him the respected title ‘Senior Lecturer.’ His humility, dedication, and selflessness were unmatched.

“As the Chitungwiza Municipality, we also benefited immensely from his service.

“Madzibaba served as the Council’s Cultural Ambassador from 2010, participating in various programmes including the Mayor’s Christmas Cheer Fund and visits to care homes.

“His contribution to our community and his enduring legacy will forever be remembered.

“The passing of the Senior Lecturer is a profound loss to the nation and to Chitungwiza at large.

“May his soul rest in peace, and may his family find comfort and strength in the Lord.”
