President Emmerson Mnangagwa has dismissed Mines and Mining Development Minister Winston Chitando, bringing an abrupt end to his latest tenure at the ministry.

In a statement issued on Monday, 8 December 2025, Chief Secretary to the President and Cabinet, Martin Rushwaya, confirmed that the decision takes immediate effect.

Rushwaya also announced the promotion of Polite Kambamura, the Sanyati legislator, who steps up from his role as Deputy Minister to become the new Minister of Mines and Mining Development.

Chitando served as Minister of Mines and Mining Development before the 2023 general elections.

He later spent just over seven months as Minister of Local Government and Public Works, from 12 September 2023 to 24 April 2024, before being reassigned back to the Mines Ministry.
