Dynamos captain Emmanuel Jalai and Herentals Queens skipper Tabeth Mutinhiri were among a number of athletes who received car gifts from President Emmerson Mnangagwa on Saturday, 6 December.
The President personally presented the brand-new vehicles to the sports stars during a ceremony held at State House in Harare.
Mutinhiri was honoured after guiding Herentals Queens to a remarkable fourth consecutive Zimbabwe Women’s Premier Soccer League title, just months after overcoming a serious ankle injury that had threatened to end her career. Speaking after receiving her gift, she said:
“This is simply unbelievable. I never imagined this. This reward isn’t just for me — it’s for the female game and for everyone who believed in me.”
Although overlooked for the 2025 Soccer Star of the Year, Jalai guided Dynamos to a record third Chibuku Super Cup triumph. He said:
“It’s always good to have a President who recognises sport. This gesture makes football such a beautiful sport…
“It’s always good to have a President who recognises sport; that is why we are enjoying the game, in Harare, Bulawayo, Mutare, Chisumbanje and anywhere else across the country.
The gesture by President Mnangagwa is a big one. It makes football such a beautiful sport. I am at a loss for words.
“May the Almighty God bless President Mnangagwa abundantly. A huge shoutout to my teammates and every part that makes the Dynamos family, especially the fans.”
Accompanying Jalai was Dynamos’ board chairperson, Benard Marriot Lusengo, along with several executive members, including marketing manager David Chikomo.
Also recognised was Sikandar Raza, the inspirational captain of the Chevrons cricket team, who played a pivotal role in securing Zimbabwe’s qualification for the 2026 ICC Men’s T20 World Cup.
The awards follow last week’s surprise for Walter Musona, skipper of the remarkable debutants Scottland, who received a vehicle in recognition of guiding his team to the title in their inaugural Premier Soccer League season.
