The City of Harare, through its subsidiary City Parking, will introduce a fully digital, self-service parking system in parts of the city centre from 1 December.
City Parking announced the move in a public notice, calling it a major step in the company’s ongoing digital transformation to make parking easier and more efficient for drivers.
Under the new system, sections of 3rd and Park streets will become unmanned parking zones, so there will be no physical parking marshals.
Drivers will need to pay for parking using digital platforms only. The affected areas are 3rd Street, between Jason Moyo Avenue and Robert Mugabe Road, and Park Street, between Jason Moyo Avenue and Samora Machel Avenue.
City Parking said the changes are part of its plan to modernise city parking services. Reads the notice:
“As part of City Parking’s modernisation and digital transformation strategy, select parking areas will now operate on a self-service basis.
“These changes aim to enhance operational efficiency and improve parking experience through the use of artificial intelligence and automation.”
Drivers can pay for parking in several ways: by scanning QR codes on street signs, dialling the USSD code *192#, using the WhatsApp chatbot on 0719515601, or downloading the Park Assist mobile app.
City Parking asked drivers to cooperate during the rollout of the new system, saying it is part of wider efforts to modernise Harare’s parking and align it with global smart-city standards.
