On Thursday, 20 November, police stated that they had launched an investigation into the incident to identify the woman involved and ensure that the law takes its course. The ZRP said:

“The ZRP has taken note of a disturbing video circulating on social media platforms, showing a woman severely assaulting a minor whose hands and legs are tied. The ZRP strongly condemns such inhumane and degrading treatment of children.

“Investigations into the incident are currently underway, with a view to identifying the suspect involved and ensuring that the law takes its course. The public will be kept informed of any developments.”

Meanwhile, unconfirmed reports suggest that the incident occurred in Machisi Village, Bocha, Manicaland Province.

The woman is said to be the child’s biological mother and allegedly assaulted the child for eating bread at a neighbour’s house.

It is also reported that the woman is separated from the child’s father.
