The Harare Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday, 18 November, postponed to 9 December the case involving Prophetic Healing and Deliverance (PHD) Ministries founder Walter Magaya and his wife, Tendai, who are facing fraud charges.

The postponement came after the State informed the court that investigations were still underway and that several witness statements had not yet been recorded.

The defence agreed to the delay but warned the State that it expects a firm trial date when the matter returns on 9 December.

The couple remains out on bail. Magaya was granted bail of US$3,000, while Tendai was released on US$500 bail. They appeared before Magistrate Gofa Marehwanazvo for routine remand proceedings.

The charges stem from allegations that, through their companies Planet Africa (Pvt) Ltd and Yadah Connect (Pvt) Ltd, the Magayas defrauded 13 complainants of more than US$49,000 and R195,000 in a failed land deal.

The State claims the pair misled congregants by claiming they had residential stands for sale in various parts of the country and encouraged them to invest in business ventures, promising a 50% return within six months.

According to the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA), Magaya is now facing a total of 78 fraud charges. He has also been charged with five counts of rape involving two female congregants.
