ZCC Member Kills Fellow Congregant During Church Service

A member of the Zion Christian Church (ZCC) has been arrested after allegedly bludgeoning a fellow churchgoer to death during a service.

The shocking incident occurred on 9 November 2025 at Binduko Village in Zaka, Masvingo Province.

It is alleged that Sam Togara (33) attacked his neighbour Emmanuel Shanganai (23) with a log during the service, while congregants were singing and clapping.

The two men are said to have had a heated argument before Togara allegedly grabbed the log and struck Shanganai, causing him to collapse.

Congregants alerted the police, but Shanganai had already died by the time they arrived. His body was taken to Ndanga Hospital for a post-mortem.

Inspector Kudakwashe Dhewa, spokesperson for the Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) in Masvingo Province, confirmed the incident. He said:

“We have arrested Sam Togara, who is suspected of killing Emmanuel Shanganai during a church service. He is assisting with investigations.”

Inspector Kudakwashe Dhewa urged members of the public not to resort to violence when dealing with disputes, and to seek help from a neutral third party instead.

“Do not turn prayer meetings into boxing matches,” he added.
