Zimbabwe national football team head coach Marian Marinica has admitted that some players are finding it difficult to adjust to his new style of football.
Marinica’s football philosophy is built around speed, strategic thinking, and high organisation—summed up as “fast and very fast.”
He made his debut in charge on Thursday, leading the team in a 3-1 friendly loss to Algeria in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia.
Speaking to ZIFA Media, the Romanian coach warned that players must change their mindset or risk being dropped from the squad. He said:
“With new ideas, there is always resistance to change. There were things that were done before that now need to be improved. Otherwise, I wouldn’t be here if everything had been working well.
“If they had seven or eight wins in the World Cup Qualifiers, I definitely wouldn’t be here.
“But there were no wins, so certain things must change – and it’s my job to make sure they do.“
Reports suggest that head coach Marinica is experiencing a serious breakdown in relations with key members of the Zimbabwe national team.
Marinica has been accused of poor player management and disrespectful communication, which has unsettled several squad members.
The situation reportedly worsened after Thursday’s 3-1 loss to Algeria, with some players even considering quitting the camp.
The Warriors are set to face Qatar on Monday, 17 November, in their second friendly match of the tour at the Abdullah bin Khalifa Stadium in Doha.
