A 35-year-old man from Bulawayo, accused of defrauding a local nurse of US$28,900, has been released after the complainant withdrew the case before plea.
Dumisani Mankunzini, of Mpopoma suburb, who works as a national development manager for Cricket Ekhaya Ekasi, appeared before Bulawayo magistrate Takudzwa Gwazemba facing a charge of fraud.
He was accused of allegedly misrepresenting himself as a business development manager with Zimbabwe Cricket and claiming to be recruiting medical personnel for the national cricket team’s tour of Europe.
It was alleged that between October 2024 and September 2025, Mankunzini persuaded the complainant, a sister-in-charge at Mpilo Central Hospital, to make a series of payments through a CABS bank account belonging to Cricket Ekhaya Ekasi.
The funds were reportedly intended to cover a supposed cricket course, uniforms, visa applications, aviation fees, and flight tickets.
After realising that the arrangements were not genuine, the complainant filed a police report, claiming she had lost US$28,900, none of which had been recovered.
However, when the matter came before the Bulawayo Magistrates Court, the complainant chose to withdraw the case before plea, leading to Mankunzini’s release.
