MDC activist Shakespeare Mukoyi on Wednesday claimed to have taken back control of the party’s iconic headquarters, the Richard Morgan Tsvangirai House — popularly known as Harvest House.
The building, which has served as the headquarters of the MDC, MDC-T, and later the MDC Alliance, was taken over by current MDC president Douglas Mwonzora after security forces helped him seize it from former CCC leader Nelson Chamisa during internal party disputes.
Mukoyi now says he has “evicted” Mwonzora from the premises.
A senior opposition official, speaking at the main entrance, confirmed to The Herald that Mukoyi and his group had taken over the building. Said the official:
“We are yet to get Mr Mukoyi’s position. He is inside the building, but the party leader, Mr Mwonzora, is nowhere to be seen.
“Mr Mukoyi just instructed the security team at the party offices to block Mr Mwonzora from entering the building.”
