Harare-based preacher Walter Magaya has been granted US$3,000 bail by High Court Judge Justice Gibson Mandaza, ending his more than a week-long detention on rape and fraud charges.

Magaya, who founded and leads Prophetic Healing and Deliverance (PHD) Ministries, was arrested on 1 November and is facing multiple charges of rape and fraud.

He was initially remanded in custody until 13 November by Harare Magistrate Marehwanazvo Gofa, who instructed him to apply for bail at the High Court due to the seriousness of the allegations.

On Tuesday, 11 November 2025, Justice Mandaza ordered Magaya to pay US$3,000 bail, surrender his passport, report to the police twice a week, and provide title deeds as surety.

Magaya and his co-accused, his wife Tendai Magaya, are also facing charges linked to a botched housing project that allegedly defrauded some of his congregants of thousands of dollars.
