Controversial businessman and ZANU PF Central Committee member Kudakwashe Tagwirei has been awarded an honorary doctorate by a Ugandan university in recognition of his “exceptional humanitarian leadership, Christian stewardship, and service to humanity.”

The honorary degree was conferred on Tagwirei on Sunday by Bugema University, a chartered Seventh-day Adventist institution of higher learning in Uganda.

Speaking to NewsDay, Tagwirei said he was honoured to be recognised beyond Zimbabwe’s borders. He said:

“It is an honour to be recognised outside Zimbabwe, especially for the philanthropic works I do not do for recognition but for transforming communities.”

This is the third time in two years that Tagwirei has been honoured by African universities.

In 2023, he was awarded an honorary doctorate by Solusi University for his contributions to Zimbabwe’s agricultural sector.

In July this year, Tagwirei received an honorary doctorate in Business and Strategic Management from Babcock University in Nigeria, in recognition of his business leadership and philanthropic work through organisations such as the Bridging Gaps Foundation.
