The Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education has dismissed as false a school calendar circulating on social media that claimed the 2026 First Term would start on 26 January and end on 1 May.
The post also suggested that the Second Term would run from 18 May to 21 August, with Term Three beginning on 7 September and concluding on 4 December.
Primary and Secondary Education Minister Torerayi Moyo said the calendar is fake, and clarified that the 2026 First Term will actually begin on 13 January. Said Moyo:
“That can’t be correct. There is no way that schools can open that late. I signed the 2026 calendar two months back, and it’s not those dates. Schools are opening on January 13.”
He revealed that the 2026 First Term will run for 57 school days, followed by a 34-day holiday break.
The Second Term is set to begin on 12 May and end on 6 August, making it the longest term with 67 school days. The Third Term will start on 8 September and conclude on 3 December.
The Ministry has also warned parents against relying on unverified WhatsApp forwards, Facebook posts, and informal “news updates,” which continue to create confusion each year.
