A Harare man, Moses Ruvheneko, appeared in court on Thursday, accused of attempting to disarm a security officer stationed at Zimbabwe House, the official residence of President Emmerson Mnangagwa.
Ruvheneko, who has no fixed address, faces two charges: criminal trespass and disorderly conduct in a public place.
He was remanded in custody by Harare magistrate Ruth Moyo, who also ordered that he undergo a mental health evaluation.
Court documents indicate that on 4 November 2025, at around 3 PM, Ruvheneko unlawfully walked along Chancellor Road, an area where pedestrians are prohibited, directly opposite Zimbabwe House.
He reportedly approached a security officer at the main gate and attempted to snatch the officer’s SKS rifle while shouting, “Where is ED? I want to see ED.”
A struggle ensued as the guard wrestled with Ruvheneko before another officer, Private Mupfumira, intervened to subdue him.
During the altercation, Ruvheneko sustained an injury to his left hand from the bayonet attached to the firearm.
He was later taken to Fife Avenue Police Station, where a formal report was filed.
The State opposed bail, arguing that Ruvheneko has no known address or relatives and could potentially interfere with witnesses if released.
