Driver Attacked, Cash and ID Stolen After Car Breaks Down In Gweru

A 42-year-old man lost US$420 and his ID documents after three men attacked him when his vehicle broke down at Wildbeast Farm, Gweru, around 11 PM on Monday.

Inspector Emmanuel Mahoko, spokesperson for the Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) in Midlands Province, said the man’s Mazda B1600 broke down at the farm. He tried to fix it but failed and decided to sleep in the car. He said:

“At around 11 PM, three men approached the car and opened the passenger door, which was not locked.

“They pulled the driver out of the car and started beating him with a wooden stick while one of them searched the vehicle.

“They took cash US$420, his national Identity particulars and bank cards before they fled into the darkness.”

Police are appealing to the public for any information that could lead to the arrest of the suspects.

Inspector Mahoko also urged motorists to prioritise their safety when confronted with similar situations.
