The National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) is moving to confiscate property belonging to business partners Moses Mpofu and Mike Chimombe following their conviction for defrauding the Government of US$7 million under the Presidential Goat Pass-on Scheme.

The prosecution, led by Whisper Mabhaudi, plans to file a confiscation order under Section 50(1) of the Money Laundering and Proceeds of Crime Act to recover assets linked to the fraudulent activities.

Mabhaudi said that once the court’s written judgment is uploaded, the State will immediately proceed with its application for the forfeiture of Mpofu and Chimombe’s assets.

Mpofu and Chimombe are scheduled to return to court on 14 November for pre-sentencing proceedings ahead of the final ruling on 17 November.

While the defence has argued that the confiscation application should be dealt with separately, the prosecution maintains that it is conviction-based and should proceed alongside sentencing.

Under the law, authorities are granted broad powers to trace, seize, and confiscate assets obtained through criminal conduct, and the NPA appears determined to use these tools to recover the misappropriated funds.
