ZESA Holdings has completed critical repairs on Hwange Power Station’s Unit 6, which was taken off the national grid following a system failure on 7 October.
The unit, one of the original thermal generating units at Hwange Power Station, has an installed capacity of 220 MW.
It was initially expected to be out of service for three days, with restoration scheduled for 10 October 2025.
However, Unit 6 was successfully brought back online and synchronised with the national grid on 14 October. ZESA Holdings said in a notice:
“ZESA Holdings is pleased to inform its valued stakeholders that Hwange Unit 6 has successfully been restored to service.
“The unit has been synchronised to the national grid and is now fully operational, contributing to improved generation capacity.
“We extend our appreciation to all stakeholders for their patience and understanding during the outage period.”
Meanwhile, ZESA Holdings’ Stakeholder Relations, Communication and Welfare Manager, George Manyaya, said on Tuesday that Unit 3 is undergoing scheduled maintenance for 44 days and is expected to be back online in early November.
