The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) said it is prepared to assist in notifying relatives of Zimbabweans who died in a bus accident on the N1 near Louis Trichardt (Makhado), Limpopo, South Africa, on Sunday afternoon.

In a statement issued on Monday, 13 October, the ZRP said it is waiting for all necessary procedures to be completed through the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Trade and the Zimbabwean Embassy in South Africa before it can officially inform the families of the deceased and release their names to the public. The statement reads:

“The ZRP has taken note of media inquiries and follow-ups on the identification of Zimbabweans who sadly died in the fatal road traffic accident in Limpopo Province, South Africa, on 12th October 2025 and the official notification of relatives in Zimbabwe.

“The ZRP is currently awaiting all the due processes to be conducted through the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Trade and the Zimbabwean Embassy in South Africa.

“The ZRP is therefore ready to offer the necessary assistance in notifying relatives in Zimbabwe once all formalities are finalised as alluded to above.”

A handwritten document listing 43 people who are said to have died in the DNC Coaches bus accident, all recorded as Zimbabweans, has been circulating on social media. The ZRP has not commented on the authenticity of the list.

While the document suggests that all the victims were Zimbabwean, South African officials on Monday announced that the deceased included both Zimbabwean and Malawian travellers.
