The Civil Registry Department has warned the public about a fraudulent social media account spreading false information claiming that passport fees have been reduced to US$56.

The alert follows a post by a page called Makombe Zimbabwe, which falsely stated that “the 90-day e-passport for $56 is back after public outcry, applicants can apply online or in person at the office.”

On Monday, 13 October, the Civil Registry Department clarified that this claim is untrue. It confirmed that an Ordinary Passport costs US$170 for a seven-working-day processing period, while an Emergency Passport is US$270 and takes 48 hours.

The department stressed that passport applications are only accepted at official Civil Registry offices and urged the public not to send money or personal details to unofficial platforms.
