Primary and Secondary Education Minister Torerayi Moyo says the government has secured funds to pay teachers who will be marking public examinations run by the Zimbabwe School Examinations Council (ZIMSEC).

Moyo made the remarks while responding to questions from legislators during the National Assembly’s Question and Answer session. He said:

“Every fortnight, ZIMSEC receives funding from Treasury and as such, we have a budget to cater for all the markers who are going to mark all the Grade Seven, O-Level and A-Level Examinations.

“So, I am happy to inform the House that we have the funds to pay the markers.”

In recent years, ZIMSEC has struggled to pay examination markers on time, particularly after the 2023 and 2024 exam sessions.

Most of the markers, who are qualified teachers, have complained about delayed allowances, unclear payment timelines, and a lack of transparency from ZIMSEC over how funds are released.

Some teachers said they were never paid for their marking work, while others only received partial payments months after completing the job.

These payment problems have raised concerns about the integrity of the examination system.

Meanwhile, Grade Seven pupils finished their exams on Monday, while O- and A-Level examinations are set to begin next Monday.
