The Premier Soccer League (PSL) says it strongly condemns any form of violence and won’t hesitate to take disciplinary action where necessary, in line with its rules and regulations.
This follows an incident on Saturday where Ngezi Platinum Stars coach Takesure Chiragwi was caught on camera slapping one of his own players during a league match against Dynamos.
Chiragwi struck midfielder Macdonald Makuwe in the 34th minute, shortly after Dynamos equalised through an own goal by Brooklyn Katumba.
The coach, who was furious and believed there had been a foul in the build-up, lost his temper on the touchline.
When Makuwe tried to calm him down, Chiragwi lashed out and hit him, prompting other members of the technical team to step in and restrain him.
The referee then sent Chiragwi off, forcing him to watch the rest of the match from the stands.
PSL spokesperson Kudzai Bare said in a statement on Saturday evening that the league is waiting for all the official match reports and has asked Ngezi Platinum Stars to submit a detailed account of what happened so that the matter can be fully investigated. She said:
“The Premier Soccer League takes note of the apparent conduct of the Ngezi Platinum Stars FC coach Takesure Chiragwi which was broadcast live on ZBC Jive TV during their match against Dynamos FC played on Saturday 04 October 2025 at Rufaro Stadium where he appears to be assaulting his own player on the Technical area.
“Whilst the league currently awaits all the official match reports we have requested the Club to also submit a detailed report on the incident to enable the league to establish the facts surrounding this incident.
“The safety, security and safeguarding of players, officials and all stakeholders remain our top priority.
“The league strongly condemns any form of violence and the PSL will not hesitate to take appropriate disciplinary action where necessary in line with the PSL Rules and Regulations
“The PSL will not make any further comment until all the necessary reports have been received.”
