Popular musician Ras Pompy, whose real name is Reginald Mano, has been sentenced to six months in prison by the Harare Magistrates’ Court for Possession of Unspecified Medicines with intent to distribute. Mano, 24, was convicted following an incident on 16 July 2025.
Police detectives spotted a black Honda Fit, known to supply drugs in the greater Harare area, being driven by the musician.
When signalled to stop, the vehicle sped off into a residential area, prompting a high-speed chase. The car eventually hit a metal pole, causing a minor accident, after which Mano was arrested.
A search of the vehicle led to the seizure of 24 bottles of 100 ml Broncleer cough syrup, 20 bottles of 100 ml Benylin cough syrup, and 55 bottles of 100 ml Astra Pain cough syrup.
All the items were found in a black bag on the front passenger seat and have a combined street value of US$396.
In handing down the sentence, the court emphasised the serious consequences of drug abuse and illegal trafficking.
The National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) warned that such cases destroy lives and communities, urging the public to shun the drug trade.
The musician is expected to serve an effective six-month prison term.
