A sombre cloud hangs over Mvurwi after three Catholic youths lost their lives in a horrific head-on collision on Saturday night.

The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) confirmed the tragedy in a statement on Sunday, revealing that the crash occurred at around 8:15 PM on the 20th of September 2025, at the 38-kilometre peg along the Mvurwi–Centenary Road, near Maori Turn Off.

According to police, a Toyota Dyna carrying seven passengers collided head-on with a Mazda Demio that had six occupants. Three people died on the spot while six others sustained varying degrees of injuries. The deceased were taken to Mvurwi Hospital mortuary for post-mortem, while the injured are currently admitted at Concession Hospital.

Preliminary reports indicate that one of the vehicles was overloaded, which may have contributed to the severity of the accident.

This tragedy has sent shockwaves through the Catholic community and the wider Mvurwi area, with many mourning the untimely loss of young lives.

Authorities have urged motorists to exercise extreme caution on the country’s highways, avoid overloading, and always adhere to road traffic regulations to prevent further loss of life.
