ZANU PF Director of Information, Farai Marapira, has criticised South Africa’s anti-immigrant group, Operation Dudula, accusing it of failing to grasp the root causes of the country’s challenges and of being manipulated by imperialist forces to turn Africans against one another.
Operation Dudula members have faced widespread condemnation for blocking foreign nationals from accessing public health services and carrying out unlawful evictions from so-called hijacked properties without court approval.
The South African Human Rights Commission has denounced the group’s activities, describing them as illegal, xenophobic, and a direct assault on the rule of law.
Speaking in an exclusive interview with South African broadcaster eNCA, Marapira insisted that Zimbabweans, like all Africans, have a legitimate right to live and work in South Africa or anywhere else on the continent. He said:
“It (Dudula) uses ignorant blacks who have no ideology to see an enemy in their brother and sister.
“It is sad that you will find someone wishing and fighting to be a restaurant worker in their own country when they have opportunity to be restaurant owners.
“How do you say you own a country and you’re fighting to be a slave on those resources instead of being an owner of those resources?
“Zimbabweans have every right, as any African, to be anywhere on the continent of Africa. This is our home, Cape to Cairo.
“We advise the Dudula people to identify their real enemy, to identify the real cause, the real problem that faces them as a people, and to stop scapegoating and fighting for crumbs when they should be owning the bakery.”
