Zimbabweans seeking to travel to the United States for short-term visits will need to look beyond their borders, as the U.S. Embassy in Harare has confirmed that its pause on visa services remains in effect.

In a statement released on Monday, 08 September, the embassy clarified that Zimbabwean residents applying for nonimmigrant visas must now do so at the U.S. Consulate General in Johannesburg, South Africa. This includes applications for tourism, business, study, and other temporary stays.

The embassy also warned non-residents currently in Zimbabwe: “If you are not a resident of Zimbabwe, you must apply at a U.S. embassy or consulate in your country of habitual residence.”

The embassy said applicants who attempt to schedule interviews outside their country of nationality or residence “may face greater difficulty qualifying for the visa.”

Visa application fees remain non-refundable, regardless of outcome, and appointment wait times vary by location.
